I am sad to say that there are music new outlets out there who will sensationalize a story, occasionally going so far as to flat out make up facts in a vain attempt to get attention and raise ratings and increase web traffic. You know, I’ve even heard of an incident where an otherwise respected music news journalist reported that Courtney Love caused 9/11. I don’t want to say his name on the air because I don’t want to give this Adonis any more attention for these egregious lies, but I will post his picture over at CortandFatboy.com. I’ve hidden it. Click around a little once you get there. Check every page and eventually you’ll find it. And tell your friends to listen to the Cort and Fatboy Show.
But this god amongst men is not the only one of guilty of these departures in journalistic ethics. No, but he’s not so stupid as to trot his sensationalism out in a major publication and base it in enough reality that every news organization on the planet runs with it. That’s apparently what happened a few weeks ago. Even this otherwise stalwart and steadfast report was caught unaware and reported these lies. You may recall me talking about how Ozzy had fallen over twice before hosting the Brit Awards and was acting as most of us assume Ozzy still acts. That was all based on reporting by the Daily Star in a story called “Ozzy’s Freak Show.” The article claimed that the producers of the show were considering whether to even let Ozzy appear on the show or to just trundle him off to the hospital.
Well, Ozzy sued for libel and won because apparently the reporter had made the entire thing up. The paper will pay substantial damages and issue an apology to Ozzy who will donate the money to The Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program.
I myself will apologize and donate money to the Courtney Love Caused 9/11 Awareness League.
And I told you about how Aerosmith will soon have their own Guitar Hero game where you can play with the band or in one of their opening acts over the course of their long careers.
