I need to sculpt some of my speculation from my rumor-mongering about Eddie Van Halen a few days ago. I told you how Van Halen had to cancel some dates on their tour because Eddie was suffering from some sort of “medical condition,” which in normal rockstar press release language means he’s going back to rehab. But that’s for normal rockstars. Eddie has suffered tongue cancer and had a hip replaced in the past so his medical condition could actually be a medical condition. Well, Eddie’s ex-wife, Valerie Bertinelli may have hinted that it is in fact rehab. She says, "I just talked to him a couple of days ago. I understand the curiosity — I was curious until I talked to him. He sounds terrific. He's just being very pro-active. It's not as awful as people think it is. I'm so proud of him right now." Now, to me, that rules out tongue cancer because that’s about as bad as it gets and that phrase, “I’m just so proud of him,” is one that people typically use with people who have taken measures to get back on the wagon. You’re not proud of someone when they get some x-rays to make sure their other hip isn’t going to blow out.
For those Blind Melon fans out there that have heard about the band reuniting with a new lead singer and are wondering how true to Shannon Hoon’s vocal styles the new guy is going to be, based on the news that came out today, I’m gonna guess pretty damn close. Travis Warren is the name of the new guy and apparently he has a 10 inch tattoo of Shannon on his back. Along with the tat, Warren confirms the similarities by saying, "It's like the dog you loved when you were a kid came back from the dead and just showed up back at your door, wagging his tail like nothing had ever happened."
