If there is one thing on this planet you don’t want, besides a candiru fish lodged in your urethra… well, any fish lodged in your urethra, really… come to think of it, anything in general lodged in your urethra, be it fish, snake, kitten, polar bear, manatee or anything else can be assumed to be on everyone’s list of things you don’t want… But if there’s anything besides all that crap that you definitely don’t want, it’s Billy Corgan pissed off at you. The reason being, that guy is pretty whiney and nasal on his best days, just imagine the earsplitting levels of shrill and whiney that he could reach if he really got pissed. Well, the Smashing Pumpkins record label is finding that out first hand right now because Billy and the band are suing Virgin Records for using the band’s name in the a promotional deal for Pepsi Stuff.
In the band’s suit they state they "worked hard for over two decades to accumulate a considerable amount of goodwill in the eyes of the public," and that Virgin's use of the band in a "Pepsi Stuff" promotion with Amazon.com and Pepsi threatens their reputation for "artistic integrity."
Virgin and the Pumpkins have a deal granting Virgin permission to sell digital downloads of the band's songs, but the suit argues that the agreement does not give Virgin the right to use the band in promotional campaigns to sell outside products.
We should all expecting to see an ad pop up on Craigslist here in the next few days that says something to the effect of “Multi-platinum, Grammy-winning artists looking for new lead singer to fill time until we get desperate for cash and make up with Axl Rose. Knowledge of how to apply own make-up a must. Fatties and druggies need not apply. (Alcoholics OK.)” That’s because, even though Scott Weiland announced that this will be the last Velvet Revolver tour and followed that with a very public verbal attack on Matt Sorum’s genitalia, Slash says there will me more Velvet Revolver tours. He was talking to the BBC and said, "Well, let's put it this way — this is not Velvet Revolver's last tour."
And since Scott seems hell bent on torching this bridge as he goes sprinting back to his soon-to-be reunited Stone Temple Pilots, gas can in hand, I’m guessing when Slash says this won’t be Velvet Revolver’s last tour, he isn’t planning on Weiland to be part of any future touring.
As far as that Led Zeppelin opening slot that Duff was bragging about last week, Slash said, "There's been a huge rumor going around about us opening for them and I think that was something that was taken out of context. I think as far as Zeppelin doing a tour, that remains to be seen.” Again, this is just me reading between the lines, but it’s my guess that Velvet Revolver was slated as a possible opening act before Plant torpedoed the whole reunion. |
