Sometimes spreading rumors comes back to bite you in the ass. Take it from me. That’s because today I got knocked down a few pegs. You know, my horse is pretty high, about 100 thousand watts high, so when I get knocked off it stings a bit. When we showed up for work today, Fatty and I got pulled into the boss’ office and had a little sit-down. Turns out we were responsible for spreading rumors, rumors that are absolutely false and it was left up to us to go on air and make it right. Seems that some time ago, I reported an internet rumor that suggested that Motley Crue would be headlining a tour called Cruefest along with other acts represented by their management like Sixx AM, Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Drowning Pool. Motley Crue’s management denied the rumor, but suggested that everyone tune in for the band’s big announcement today to find out exactly what they had in store for the summer. Well, what they had in store was shoveling a steaming pile of STFU into my gullet because what they announced today was nothing at all what I reported a month ago.

Today, in a press conference, Motley Crue announced that they will be headlining a tour called Cruefest with Sixx AM, Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Trapt, not Drowning Pool as I had reported. Clearly my face is red. I don’t imagine the fellas in the Douche-y Radio Music News Reporters Union will let me live this one down anytime soon. Cruefest will roll through Portland on August 9th at the Rose Garden.

This one’s for you long-time northwest residents, especially you old dudes. You probably remember back in the day (or maybe you don’t thanks to the gallons of PBR that has washed though your frontal lobe since then) to a time when you could go to some crappy club that smelled like cigarettes, BO and vomit and see a kick ass band for five bucks. Back when big acts like Motley Crue didn’t roll through town so the locals had to make their own music.

Of course, then Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden got national attention and the shows got a lot more expensive and a whole lotta dudes in bands started unloading gear out of vans with California license plates.

Well, coming up on July 12th and 13th, the record label responsible for all those kick ass bands that later made millions dressing like gas station attendants celebrates their 20th anniversary with a line-up that would have been pretty kick ass in 1988. Sub Pop Records’ 20th Birthday Party at Seattle's Marymoor Park will feature Green River, Mudhoney, Red Red Meat, the Fluid, Beachwood Sparks and Seaweed.

And this is Green River’s original line-up. Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam and Steve Turner and Mark Arm form Mudhoney all on the stage together again for the first time in about 20 years.

Some of Sub Pop’s current roster including Flight of the Conchords, the Helio Sequence, Iron & Wine and Wolf Parade will play the show as well.
